Is Indian food extremely spicy or hot?
This is a common misconception. It is not at all like the burning sensation you get from eating foods made with plenty of chilis or hot sauces. When it comes to Indian food, spices and herbs such as turmeric, cardamom, cloves, garlic, cinnamon, cilantro, and saffron are commonly used. These spices are mainly aromatic in nature, with full flavor as its end. Bear in mind, however, that if a customer so desires, certain dishes can be prepared with a much bolder taste. For just such occasions, our chef can add other spices for some extra kick, such as black pepper and red chilli powder. However, many are satisfied with a spice factor of mild to medium. Simply relate your preference to the waiter.
What is a Dosa?
It is a crepe made from fermented rice and lentil flour. It is often filled with sauteed potatoes, onions, and green peas. The filling can also be swapped for something different, such as paneer (cottage cheese).
What is a Tandoor?
It is a clay oven having a round belly and an opening on top. With a huge burner at the bottom, it can generate temperatures up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. The dishes most commonly cooked in a tandoor are all nan breads, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, and various kebabs such as sheek kebabs. The high heat output forms a crusted seal on the outside of the meat, preserving the moisture within the meat itself. As a result, the meat is tender, juicy, and flavorful.
Is Indian food greasy or unhealthy?
As all other cuisines, there are a variety of choices which best suit your dietary requirements and health conscious needs. As far as the Indian food we serve, all meat items cooked on skewers are not fried, but grilled in the tandoor clay oven. Additionally, most of the dishes are made with aromatic spices known for their medicinal properties.
Does all your food have curry?
Curry is actually a broad term which involves a sauce derived from a mix of ground spices, (curry powder). The notion that curry powder is used in most Indian dishes is a myth. It’s used in a couple of dishes traditionally prepared in an average Indian household (chicken curry, lamb curry, goat curry, etc.).
Why does my dish take 15-20 min. to make?
Unlike many restaurants and fast food establishments, each and every dish is hand-crafted and tailor made to suit the spice preference of each specific customer. All meals are made from scratch, so no food is re-heated and no sauces are pre-made beforehand. In the end, the food is fresher and tastes better.
First time eating Indian. What should I try?
Ordering from a typical Indian restaurant menu for the first time can be an overwhelming experience. If you are new to Indian food, it is probably wise to start out with dishes prepared with milder spices. Tandoori chicken, and any of our kebabs will remind you of tender, barbequed meat, but having a distinct south Asian flavor. Our rice dishes, like vegetable biryani, and breads, such as naan or roti are also good complements. If you visit us during one of our buffets throughout the week, you can determine what you like by sampling just a little bit from each tray.
Is it OK to eat with my hands?
In India, eating without utensils is commonly practiced. Tearing nan breads by hand and dunking pieces into sauce can be much easier and more enjoyable than utilizing a knife and fork for the task. As long as proper hygiene and table etiquette is maintained, this method of dining is totally acceptable.
